Q&A with Union’s Maddy Briscoe – Presented by Josh Moore – Shelter Insurance

VYPE: Maddy, what grade did you start playing softball and when did you know it was the sport for you?

Maddy Briscoe: I started playing softball when I was four years old and going into kindergarten. I knew it was the sport for me probably around six when I started doing pitching lessons with coach Drysdale. 

VYPE: What does it mean to you to be a Redhawk?
MB: To me, being a Redhawk means being selfless, putting others first, never giving up, and always being supportive. 

VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in school and a favorite teacher?

MB: My favorite subject in school is Mrs. Prag’s Trig and Algebra 3 math class but my favorite teacher is coach Jestice. 


VYPE: What position do you play and what makes it difficult to play?

MB: I am a pitcher and I think the hardest thing about being a pitcher is the mental side of it and the hours of work people don’t see you putting in. 

VYPE: What game do you have circled on the calendar that you’re excited to play?

MB: Two games that I have circled on the calendar is the Deer Creek at Deer Creek game on Sept 3rd and the Collinsville game at home on Sept 13th

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing, who is the most serious?

MB: One teammate that keeps everyone laughing is Tatum Sanders. The more serious one is Danytza Perez. 

VYPE: When you have some down time, how do you enjoy spending it?

MB: I enjoy spending my free time with friends whether it’s running around town, going to eat, or shopping, we are always having a blast. 

VYPE: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

MB: The best advice that I have received is “Be a duck” basically saying let everything roll off your back. 

VYPE: What’s the goal for life after high school?

MB: The goal for life after high school is to go to college and get my degree in biology and become an Athletic Trainer.
