Chelsea’s Ben Hagebusch – Football Spotlight – Presented by Legends Hardwoods LLC

With a tough schedule ahead, the Chelsea football team and Ben Hagebusch are focused on taking it one game at a time. After the first two games of the season, Chelsea is 1-1 and for Hagebusch, he has seen a lot of positives the team will continue to build on.

“There is great community support. Our fans show up to support us every Friday home and away. Dedicated coaches who are passionate about football and love to see us succeed,” said Hagebusch.

A wide receiver and safety for the Dragons, Hagebusch started playing football while still in elementary school like many of his teammates.

“I started playing football when I was in sixth grade, but my dad was a football coach, so I have always been around the sport and loved football,” said Hagebusch. “I love being around my teammates. Some of my favorite memories are hanging out in the locker room.”

Everyone looks forward to playing teams like Nowata, but every game, practice and camp offers an opportunity to grow as players and as men.

“I am really looking forward to the Nowata game. They got us last season and I’m hoping to bounce back,” Hagebusch said. “My favorite memory from playing football was going to team camp my sophomore year. It was a great bonding experience with my teammates.”

When asked about his teammates, Hagebusch is quick to point out who keeps everyone laughing and having a good time.

“Jeremy Versey and Daniel Bennet are definitely the funniest because you never know what they are going to say or do. I am probably the most serious. I always try to keep the team focused and locked in.”

Away from the field, you can usually find the senior playing disc golf with his friends and attending Bible study. His plans for life after high school include attending college and possibly extending his playing career.
“Hopefully I get the opportunity to compete at the next level, whether that is football, basketball, or track,” said Hagebusch.

The senior said the best advice he was given applies to all walks of life.

“The best advice I’ve ever received is “be the standard.” This means to always do the right things and lead by example.”

“Ben is a straight A student that plays multiple sports at Chelsea. Ben is a State Champion in the high jump and is active in the community and the local Baptist church. Ben is late developer at the wide receiver position but already has multiple offers for football. Our program expects big things out of this senior and others will to. Ben is a coach’s dream with the way he leads not only with words but also his actions.” – head coach Ryan Reed.
