Collinsville’s Payton Jones

Collinsville High School senior and varsity basketball player Payton Jones is known for the passion she brings to the court and her love for her school and teammates. Collinsville head coach Kailan Woods calls Jones the “unsung hero” of the team.

“Hearing that description makes me feel reassured that I am doing what I am supposed to do as a senior, while there are always improvements that can be made to make me as a player and a person better overall,” said Jones.

Jones has continued to improve her game. As a senior, one of her goals is to be a great teammate to everyone on the team.

“This year I think I will help the team by being a leader and being a good teammate on and off the floor,” said Jones.

During her time at CHS, Jones has enjoyed being part of the program even during the challenging times.

“My student–athlete journey over the past years has been great. We’ve had a lot of changes over the years, but I could not ask for a better team, coaches, and support system,” Jones said. “What I think I will remember most is the community and support kids have here in Collinsville.”

Jones said she has made many good friends while playing basketball and more memories than she can count.

“What I love most about my teammates at CHS is the friendships we’ve made over the years. My favorite memory at CHS as a student-athlete is playing spoons with all the coaches at Pitt State,” Jones said. “A current player who has left an impression on me was probably Hayden McDowell because of her work ethic.”

When she has some free time, Jones said she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family. When her time at CHS comes to an end, Jones said she is planning on attending college.

“My plans after I graduate are to attend Oklahoma State University and major in Biology,” said Jones.

The senior had one more thing to say before getting back on the court.

“I would like to shoutout all my coaches for pushing me to be my best!”
