Sand Springs’ DeShayna Custard: Mom of the Month – Presented by RibCrib

DeShayna Custard is the mother of multiple children, but currently has one competing under the gold and black Sandite colors. Kaydrin Bowden is a sophomore who has tried many sports, but basketball is her life, according to Custard.

Custard is a very hands-on parent especially when it comes to supporting her children in their endeavors. She is president of the local booster club. She also works the concession stand for both high school and junior high games during basketball season, taking breaks to watch Kaydrin play of course. Her philosophy on encouraging her kids in sports is simple and effective.

“Most of all, with both of my kids and my bonus kiddos, I show up,” she said. “The biggest thing you can do to support your kids is just show up.”

Custard loves being part of the Sandite community.

“Sand Springs is full of the friendliest people,” she said. “The community is really an ‘everyone helps everyone’ place and I’m not used to that; it’s been amazing.”

Custard works in the health insurance field, doing her part in the fraud department to save their members money. In her free time—she joked, “Free time? What is that?”—she likes to make quilts and enjoy the outdoors by hiking. She is also president of a district for the American Legion Auxiliary. Her dedication to her children and her community is appreciated by those around her!
