Spirit Spotlight with Bixby’s Whittier Pearman – Presented by Rib Crib

Whittier Pearman is a sophomore at Bixby High School where she’s a member of the varsity cheer squad. Pearman started cheering in the seventh grade and has loved every minute of it.

Whittier is a base on the team, which means she is one of several cheerleaders who form the foundation for the flyers to stand on. One of her goals is to spread as much positivity as possible to push her team and keep them motivated.

Whittier said she loves her teammates and is inspired by them in many ways.

“This year I have been extremely impressed by my teammate Izzy Morgans. She is a senior this year. Her dedication and knowledge of this sport is incredible. She is always encouraging and helping our team to be the best we can be,” Whittier said. “The teammate that keeps everyone laughing is Kayla Estrada. Her humor is supreme, and she keeps the energy up at practice. On the other hand, the most serious teammate is Skylar Kelley. She is always focused on what we’re doing and has a respectable integrity.”

VYPE: Whittier, tell us one of your favorite memories as a cheerleader for BHS.
Whittier Pearman: One of my favorite memories as a BHS cheerleader was winning Nationals in Dallas my freshman year. We worked so hard all year for the competition, and it felt incredibly rewarding to win.

VYPE: What makes BHS a great place to be a student-athlete?
WP: Bixby High School is a great place for me to be a student-athlete because of the inspiring coaches and teachers. The community here at Bixby is absolutely amazing. All the staff want to see you succeed and push you towards your goals academically and athletically.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?
WP: To mentally prepare myself for a competition I practice to make my skills in the routine consistent. My coach, Alaina Wright, stresses the importance of consistency to us constantly. Consistency provides confidence.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
WP: What I love most about my teammates is our bond. We have all seen each other in our best and worst states and we love each other through it all. Everyone is so encouraging and supportive and I feel like I can talk to them about anything.

VYPE: What is your goal for life after high school?
WP: My goal for life after high school is still undecided. I plan to attend the University of Oklahoma and study something of interest.
