Prodigy Softball – Alyssa Baughman – Dewar HS
Dewar High School sophomore Alyssa Baughman has played softball for as long as she can remember. A multi-positional player, Baughman said she enjoys being a versatile player.
“I am the main catcher, but when I’m not I play outfield and first base,” said Baughman.
As a Prodigy team member, Baughman said her game has continued to improve thanks to the coaching she receives and the attention to each player individually.
“My coach, Mark Ott, actually coaches. If you don’t understand something, he coaches you through it and this team is a real team even with the 16s, everyone is close and drama free,” said Baughman.
Defensively Baughman is a solid player, but one area she continues to work on is her hitting.
“ ”“My main thing was hitting. At the end of the year I was struggling. I’ve got my confidence back and I’ve become a better player and gained better skills like ball control and to keep things simple and don’t over complicate it,” said Baughman.
Playing for Prodigy also gives Baughman another opportunity to showcase her talents in front of college coaches.
“There’s always good competition and you get good chances with colleges. My goal is to go to Oklahoma State University for college, to play softball and study to become a veterinarian,” said Baughman.
Baughman said she finds inspiration from someone close to home.
“My dad inspires me. He always pushes me to be better,” said Baughman.
