VYPE: Jordan, when did you start competing in cross country?
Jordan Rangel: I started in 7th grade.
VYPE: What’s been your best run this season or favorite moment?
JR: My favorite moment so far is breaking sub 17 mins in the 5k. I ran 16:56 at RSU and I was able to do this with my mom watching which helped me push. This is a great moment for me because it shows my summer training was paying off.
VYPE: Which teammate has impressed you the most this year?
JR: Hunter Nevarez has impressed me a lot. However, I was expecting this from him as he is a great runner and enjoys running.
VYPE: How do you prepare yourself mentally for competition?
JR: I really just tell myself that I am prepared and that I am good enough. I have always dealt with race anxiety and just always kind of not put my full effort in. However, this year has been different as I am able to mentally prepare for my races. Towards then of my races when it’s gets hard, I just tell myself that I am the best and that I can do this.
VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing and who is the most serious?
JR: My dear friend Tucker Webb is the funniest and always puts a smile on my face. I believe Kellen is the most serious when it comes down to who is the most serious out of us.

JR: I enjoy math and my favorite teach is coach Schmauss.
VYPE: What makes CHS a great place for student-athletes?
JR: It’s a great place with great people. the coaches are always there for you and are kind and encouraging.
VYPE: Best advice you’ve received about running?
JR: Run slow, so you can race fast.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
JR: I don’t have a career in mind yet, but I would like to run in college.
