COLLINSVILLE CARDINALS

Coach: KEVIN DREWRY JONES

9-3

OFFENSE

A good group of returning starters can really get a fan base excited. It will get the head coach excited as well as Kevin Jones enters another year at the helm of Collinsville football. “Got a talented group of guys returning. Seven returning starters on offense and defense. Need leaders to emerge. If that happens and we stay healthy, we will have a very good team,” said Jones. Skyler Moorman (6-2, 190, Jr.) returns after a monster sophomore campaign that witnessed himthrow for 1,941 yards on 145 completions with 18 touchdowns. He also rushed for five scores and 170 yards. Coach Jones said Moorman was the first sophomore to start a QB for a full season. Moorman will have a solid run game and good receivers to throw to again this season. Scott Rigby (5-10, 185, Jr.) carried the rock 131 times for 1,136 yards and 14 TDs. That puts him in VYPE Top 100 nominee range alongside his quarterback. Ben Daniels (5-7, 155, Jr.) caught 28 passes for 409 yards and four TDs. Daniels is quick, runs good routes and will help stretch the defense. Up front the Cardinals feature Austin Choate (5-9, 255, Sr.) and Drake Devore (6-4, 245, Sr.). The line will need Choate and Devore to help some of the younger guys mature into Cardinal linemen.

DEFENSE

Seven starters are back on defense giving the Cardinals an experienced squad that should be ready come open night. The Cardinal defense will base in the 3-4 and look to play fast and physical in a tough district. Chris Goodman (6-2, 245, Sr.) will set the tone from his defensive end spot. Last season Goodman amassed 51 tackles and seven sacks. Expect more of the same from Goodman. Daniels will move to the defensive side where he will start in the secondary. His ability to spot the ball garnered him 14 PBUs and four INTs last season. He also added 55 tackles. Rigby will join Daniels as a two-way player in the secondary. Rigby made 54 tackles and two sacks last season from his safety position. Drake Devo (6-4, 245, Sr.) will play opposite Goodman at end. Last year Devo made 28 tackles and will look for more in 2024. A pair of outside linebackers should have opposing running backs worried about going outside. Talan Rush (6-2, 190, Jr.) and Sean Ross (6-2, 195, Jr.) both had nearly 50 tackles each as sophomores.  They fit perfectly into the fast, attacking style coach Jones wants from his defense. Add Cory Davis to the mix at linebacker and you have a group that loves to play fast and physical. The coaching staff includes Cory James, Brannon Feese, Tony Daniels, Kevin Smith, Andrew Gray, and Boone Upky.
