Collinsville’s Colton Wilson
In the fifth grade, Colton Wilson wasn’t really interested in playing a sport. At the time, his parents thought joining something was a good idea. Colton’s mom enjoyed football and his grandpa played football in his youth. This led him to choose a sport that is now an integral part of Colton’s life. He does not know what he would do now without football.
Colton is a junior at Collinsville High School. He plays tackle and defensive tackle. His team and teammates are an important part of his high school career. Being with his teammates is his favorite part of playing football.
The teammate leaving the biggest impression on Colton is Maverick Carlile. The two have a long history of playing football together. “I’ve played with him since fifth grade.”
Football taught him the value of putting effort into the things you love and building a strong character. It is a privilege to represent his team. As a student-athlete representing his school, Colton is aware of the impact his actions have on and off the field. “There are so many little kids that look up to you, so you always need to leave a good impression on them,” he says.
While many people look to other athletes or leaders for inspiration, Colton says he finds inspiration in himself. Advice from Coach Jones resonated with Colton. “He said we can always control three things. Our effort, toughness, and character.”
The competition of playing football is his favorite activity but he has interests away from football too. He also likes playing other sports, reading and family trips. He recalls his first and most memorable trip to Branson. “As a kid, we didn’t really go out of state. Because it was the first time, I loved it and always wanted to go back,” he said. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Haney from his freshman and sophomore years. “She’s the nicest and most kind person I’ve ever met.”
Colton’s future plans are to attend college and earn a degree in physical therapy.
