Collinsville’s Joely Wise
By Trina Walker
Sports shaped Joely Wise into the person she is today. She is part of a great community and loves representing Collinsville High School as a junior. Golf and cheerleading have been particularly impactful in Joely’s life.
She is proud of making it to the state golf tournament each year, crediting time spent with her dad on the golf course for shaping her into a golfer with the skill to get there.
“I played with my dad when I was little. He has played the sport for a long time and is always willing to help me,” she said.
Golfing showed her the importance of keeping your head up even when things don’t go your way. This is a hard lesson to learn but it has paid off.
“I want to be the best that I can be.” This is accomplished she says by “playing the round one shot at a time.”
“ ”Cheerleading is another important sport for Joely. She has cheered and done gymnastics since first grade. Through cheerleading, she has built strong friendships. Her favorite part of being on the cheer squad is getting to work with her friends to accomplish new goals.
Winning Gameday regionals two years in a row and winning the academic title at state are the two biggest accomplishments her cheer team celebrated. They compete in performance, gameday, and stunt.
Whether with her golf team or cheer squad, Joely looks up to the upperclassmen.
“I can always learn something new. Any of the seniors set great examples and are great leaders,” says Joely.
While her dad influences her in golf, Joely is inspired by her mom when it comes to cheerleading.
“My mom is always supportive. I want to thank my parents for everything they have done for me.”
Joely is also on the CHS basketball team.
