Kate Reid is no rookie.
The Collinsville High School senior balances softball, basketball and track, an increasingly rare feat for student-athletes at larger high schools.
“At times, it can be difficult, especially when they overlap, but lucky for me, they are all in different seasons, so it makes the balancing part a lot easier,” Reid said. “I love each sport a lot, and it’s a tough pick, but I’d have to say softball is my favorite.”
“Kate’s a stud,” said Cardinals head softball coach Kylee Cole. “She has started for us in the circle or at shortstop since she was a freshman. Kate has such big impacts on the game in both the circle and the batter’s box. She is insanely athletic, talented and has a high softball IQ. Her experience and leadership will be huge for us this year!
Reid’s softball career began at four years old.
“I don’t remember a time where I wasn’t playing softball, and the friendships I have made from this sport have been the most meaningful,” Reid said. “I would love the opportunity to play in college. Right now, I don’t have any set plans. I’m trusting in God’s plan for me.”
Reid’s dedication to her community can’t be understated.
“I love the Collinsville community. It’s a small town so you know pretty much everyone, but I would say the ability for everyone to show up and support each other is very special,” Reid said. “Putting on the uniform and getting to represent Collinsville means a lot. It’s important because the younger generation of Collinsville athletes love to show up and support us high school athletes and it’s important to be a good role model on and off the field.”
Reid spends a considerable amount of spare time with her dog, Lexi, and three cats, Ally, Ivy and Savannah. She credits her family for playing a significant role in her athletic development.
“They have always supported me throughout my life in sports. Whether it’s driving me to practice or hyping me up pregame, they have always been my biggest cheerleaders and I will forever be thankful for that.”
