When Parker Knight of Collinsville High School started playing softball, she was in kindergarten. At that age it’s tough to know what you would like to do in high school, but Knight knew she enjoyed being around her teammates and being part of the team.
“I knew it was the sport for me when I was having fun and making new friendships,” Knight said. “It’s not a one-man sport. It’s a team aspect and everyone supports everyone.”
This season Knight said she has enjoyed seeing the hard work pay off.
“Seeing the outcome and seeing how much hard work pays off. That’s my favorite thing about working hard is there’s always a good outcome no matter what,” said Knight.
Making it to regionals and winning state is the ultimate goal according to Knight and she feels they have the players to do it.
“Our team has a close bond. We love supporting each other and pushing each other to be the best. There is a difference with this team because we communicate and that shows how we play on the field,” said Knight.
Being a student-athlete at CHS and seeing the support they get from the fans is not lost on Knight or her teammates.
“One of my favorite things about playing in Collinsville, is how all the different sports goes and watches and supports each other. I love how we always have a big crowd no matter what sport it is. The small town pours their hearts into supporting the teams,” said Knight.
Knight said she plans to play softball in college and loves spending time with her friends when she’s not on the field. She points to an upperclassman as a source of inspiration as a player.
“Kate Reid has made a big impact on my life on and off the field. She shows me what being a leader is when things aren’t going our way. Last year as a freshman, I looked up to Kate in so many different ways. She’s an all-around good person.”
