Oologah’s Asher Streater – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Pristine Carpet & Tile Cleaning

Oologah’s Asher Streater

Oologah High School senior Asher Streater started playing baseball when he was six years old. Now a member of the varsity team, Streater is preparing for his final season as a Mustang. Streater has set several goals for himself this year.

“This season my goals consist of representing God well on the field throughout the trials of the season, because they will come whether or not I invite them. Serving my teammates and coach in the best way that I know how by filling my role in and outside the classroom throughout the season. The last game of the season, whatever that entails, being on a team of guys that love each other, love the game, and are ready to win coming off the bus. Doesn’t matter if the game is in state, or a game that has no value. I just want to be a part of a team exited to play with guys that love being around each other. Last year I got all district player of the year so it would be cool if I could get that again. Preparing for college mentally by getting ready to be at the bottom of the ladder. Have fun. Win or lose I want to be grateful and enjoy every opportunity I get to play the game I love,” said Streater.

On the field, Streater is a leader and a consistent player.
“I would say that my strength on the field lies in my catching and my ability to lead my team in the right direction in the midst of high-pressure situations. I have been working on my hitting, being more positive throughout the ups and downs, being humble, and knowing when to be quiet. Less is more,” said Streater.

For Streater, being part of the larger Oologah community and being close to his teammates is something special.

“I love the community. It’s big enough to have the good parts of sports and not large enough to be ruined by politics. I also love our teachers as they work very hard to teach high schoolers that don’t want to learn,” Streater said. “What I love most about my teammates is their honesty. I appreciate whenever guys tell me that my crap stinks. It’s a good reminder that if someone really cares they will hold you to the standard that you are capable of. I love the “honesty over comfort” approach that a lot of my teammates take.”

Streater said several teammates have impressed him coming into the new season. Guys like Brandon Lewis has stepped up to help make this a great season.

After he graduates, Streater said he plans to attend University of Texas-Dallas on a baseball scholarship.“I’m looking to study marketing. After college I want to get married and be able to provide for my family. The goal is to be half the man that my dad is,” said Streater.
