OUTLOOK

It was a special season for the Rams last year as they added their first boy’s state title in basketball and the schools 46th title overall. Head coach Brian Montonati is looking forward to the prospect of this team doing something special again this season.

“The Rams return three starters from the 2024 state champions. The Rams will be led by the 2024 Gatorade Player of the year Jalen Montonati, 6-foot-11 Saint Louis signee Jax Kerr and the steady play of junior guard Boden Williams,” Montonati said. “The Rams are playing in several national showcase tournaments including the prestigious “City of Palms tournament” in Fort Meyer’s Florida.”

The returning Shelter Insurance Mr. Basketball Oklahoma, Jalen Montonati (6-7, Jr.) averaged 23 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game past season. Montonati is a top 20 ranked player nationwide and was the MVP of the state tournament last season. His play sets the tone for the Rams. Also look for Jax Kerr (6-11, Sr.) at forward. Kerr averaged 11 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game. The big man is a difference maker in the paint.

Coach Montonati said there are several players who take on big roles this season.

“The Rams will also look for big seasons from senior Kobe Freeman (5-10), Julius Wilson (6-4, Jr.), Koen Scott (6-1, Jr.) and MJ Milton (6-2, Jr.). A very challenging non district schedule will help prepare the Rams for another deep State tournament run,” said Montonati.

Julius Wilson and Kobe Freeman averaged 18 points and 20 points respectively. Other players to watch include Nico Ngouan (5-10, Jr.), Boden Williams (6-4, Jr.), Julian Wilson (6-1, So.), Spencer LeBeau (6-0, So.), Crew Byerly (5-11, Jr.), and Colton Hibbert (6-0, Sr.).

The tournament schedule for the Rams will be a challenge. Trips include Hoopfest in Duncanville, TX., and the Iverson Classic in Memphis, TN. The City of Palms Classic in Florida is followed up with the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa. Later in January the Rams will travel to Kansas for the Bill Hanson Memorial Tournament.
