Owasso’s Kaylee Isam
By Trina Walker
Kaylee Isam started practicing softball with her dad and older sister, Tiffany, when she was only three. “I wanted to play softball because I watched my sister play for so many years and I always wanted to be like her. Softball has always been a part of me and something that I have always loved.”
Now a sophomore at Owasso High School, Kaylee is making memories and learning life lessons on the field. “Mistakes aren’t always a bad thing; you learn more from failure than success,” she says.
Kaylee’s favorite part of being on a team is knowing that, win or lose, it is not about one person. “Everything you do is together and as a team,” she said. Winning state as a freshman with her team is the best memory she has of playing softball. “The energy in that game was so high. That was the moment we all knew that the hard work had finally paid off.”
Teammates KK and Ty have significantly impacted Kaylee’s career at Owasso. “Even as a freshman, as soon as I was on the team, they took me under their wing and made me feel included and welcomed.”
Kaylee is grateful to everyone who supports her. “I want to thank God. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today without Him. He has gifted me with so much in my life, even outside of this sport.
“Next, I want to thank my dad. He has always pushed me to be the absolute best version of myself and he is the best coach that I know. I also want to thank all my teammates that I have played with because y’all have been through thick and thin with me and still have never left my side,” says Kaylee.
Outside of softball, Kaylee enjoys math and vacationing in Cancun. She also throws the discus in track. “I went to state last season, so I am hoping for another good season this year!” she exclaimed.
In the future, she plans to attend college, play softball and become a forensic pathologist.
