Owasso’s Madilyn Hill
Only in her sophomore season, Madilyn, or Madi Hill is playing like a seasoned upperclassman. Hill is a VYPE Top 100 selectee this season and Owasso head coach Kendall Woodward said Hill is taking on a larger role on the team this season.
“She is returning after a strong freshman season where she was on the 1st Team for the State Tournament. She also won the Freshman of the Year award for our district and averaged a double-double as a freshman. She will be taking on a larger role this next season on the offensive end and as a leader,” said coach Woodward.
As a freshman Hill averaged over 10 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Receiving those honors is something Hill was proud to achieve, but ultimately, she wants her team to win.
“Being selected for 6A Freshman of the Year for both basketball and volleyball for ’23-24 season is something I’m most proud of,” said Hill.
Hill said she draws inspiration from her family and a former teammate on the volleyball team.
“ ”“My biggest inspirations are my parents. They are my biggest role models in my life and push me to be the very best version of myself every single day,” Hill said. “Ana Appel, who plays on my club volleyball team leaves a lasting impression on everyone! She is incredibly talented, but more importantly has a positive attitude all the time, encouraging, coachable and is a leader on the court.”
The sophomore lives by some advice she received about hard work, “never let anyone outwork you,” is the mantra Hill takes to the gym every day. Her process for improving her game shows how she applies that advice.
“I think the process of improving is staying consistent, showing up every day, working on weaknesses and learning how to overcome setbacks and adversity,” said Hill.
In the classroom, Hill brings the same focus to her studies. Of course, she has her favorites, but Hill gives them all equal attention.
“Mrs. Parrett because she had both my brother and I in class. She was a great teacher and treated us like family,” said Hill.
Hill wanted to send a shout out to her coaches and teammates.
“Shout out to my AAU coach, Josh Atkinson. He has coached me since I first started playing basketball. He pushes not only me, but my teammates, to all be better athletes, leaders, and people in general,” said Hill.
