Owasso’s Sydnee Thomas

By Mike Moguin

Sydnee Thomas has been a force on both the basketball court and softball diamond throughout her time at Owasso High School. She is expected to continue her impact for the Rams this year as a guard on the hardwood.

“Winning the softball state championship my junior year,” she said, which was just a year ago, is her most memorable moment in sports came a year ago.

The Rams had won the 2024 Class 6A title after making the state tourney in previous seasons, only to come up short. Playing both softball and basketball, Thomas said, has taught her, “How to be a good teammate and do the hard things for those who surround me instead of myself.”

Mr. Shuck, who taught her English in her sophomore year, is her favorite teacher.

“He made the class and learning so much easier and fun,” Thomas said.

Like most athletes, her parents mean a lot to her, “because they sacrificed everything for the opportunities I have,” she said.

Friendships go a long way. Thomas has that in one of her teammates.

“Sarah Yokle and I have been teammates since third grade,” she said. “She has battled injuries throughout high school, but she has always been a strong person I can rely on.

The best advice Thomas said she has ever received is “that being a better person/teammate will get you farther than just being a good athlete,” she said.

“Getting opportunities to travel to places and play for my school,” she said, moves her when she is playing in her Ram cardinal red, black, and white uniform.

Thomas is a fan of UConn Women’s Basketball, the NBA Champion Oklahoma City Thunder, last season’s league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and the Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers.

Outside of athletics, she likes to eat with her friends and shop with her mom.

“I want to give a shout-out to my parents for always providing for me,” Thomas said.
