Pars & Birdies, Collinsville’s Brooklyn Babbit is Ready for Varsity Action – Presented by Dolton Funeral Home

VYPE: Brooklyn, what grade are you in, and what age did you start playing golf?
Brooklyn Babbit: I am in my freshman year. I have been involved in golf since I was seven years old going to First Tee and casually playing with my dad. I have been taking lessons and really working for the past two years on my swing. I have been competitively playing over a year now.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite course to play? Why?
BB: My hone course is Bailey Ranch, and it is my favorite place to play. The staff has been so open and has become family to me. It is one of the best facilities in Oklahoma and is one of the hardest courses around, so it really improves my game.

VYPE: What is the strength of your skill set and what did you improved on for the most?
BB: My driver is the strongest part of my game at this time and my approach shots have really improved this year.

VYPE: What makes Collinsville HS a great place for you as a student-athlete?
BB: I love my school because as a girl golfer it’s not understood by many of my schoolmates but I have received so much support from the staff, teachers and coaches It makes me feel 10-feet tall.

VYPE: What is your biggest challenge as a high school golfer?
BB: Not being too hard on myself and knowing that golf is a mental game more than anything.

VYPE: What does the support from your parents, coaches and fans mean to you?
BB: It gives me confidence and in golf that is so important.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?
BB: I have created a routine for tournaments that helps me stay clam because it has been hard in the past getting too emotional and that only makes it worse. So, I know this is a long-term goal and I have been in quite a few tournaments already to realize it’s all about the next shot.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
BB: Golf is such a solo sport it has been so nice to have a team of girls to play with.

VYPE: What’s the goal for life after high school?
BB: My goal is to go to college and play for the OSU Cowgirls Golf team..

VYPE: Who inspires you on or off the course?
BB: Nelly Korda she has the perfect swing and is mentally strong on the course with the grace and humility of a great woman off the course.
