Abi Richardson
Collinsville High School
VYPE: Abi, when did you start playing softball and when did you know this was the sport for you?
Abi Richardson: I started playing softball in first grade. I played for fun until around the summer after 7th grade I got on a team with a group of girls that really inspired me and made the game fun. This made me realize that this is the sport for me and that I wanted to continue to do it for a long time.
VYPE: What are some of the positives you’re seeing from the team this season?
AR: There are many positives to being on this team but one of my favorites is how well we get along. All of us are best friends and can confide in each other.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities at CHS?
AR: I’m a varsity cheerleader for Collinsville, it’s a great program and has helped me find great friends.
VYPE: Best thing about being a student-athlete at CHS?
AR: Collinsville has many helpful teachers that are very understanding when it comes to how often we have to miss school for games, therefore it helps us athletes stay caught up in our work.
VYPE: Where does your strong work ethic come from?
AR: My strong work ethic comes from how hard my parents have pushed me to be the best version of myself. They taught me that no matter how hard life can get, you always push through, and you will be rewarded.
VYPE: Tell me something you love about your teammates?
AR: Something that I really love about my teammates is how often a lot of us are on the same page. A lot of us bond over the same things and can agree most of the time. We are all around each other enough that we love each other like family and continue to have each other’s backs.
VYPE: What’s the goal this season?
AR: Our team has wanted to host regionals for a while now. Out of the 3 years that I have played with this team, where all of us are at currently, has put us closer than ever to having the successful season that we have been working for.
VYPE: Who has made an impact in your life, on or off the field?
AR: Jordin Crane has been an amazing friend to me through my five years of knowing her. She has been by my side through everything. She is the type of friend that you learn from every single day that you spend with her. She has so much determination and it is truly amazing watching the way that she has grown on the field. She is an all around amazing person.
VYPE: What is your goal for life after high school?
AR: I would love to play college ball in the future. I also plan on majoring in psychology and going to RSU. If I enjoy those four years, then I later plan on going to OU for med school and being a psychiatrist.
