Q&A with Owasso’s Ella Kidwell
VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Owasso HS?
Ella Kidwell: I love being a student athlete at Owasso HS because of the community. We are all one big family.
VYPE: What’s your favorite subject in school and do you have a favorite teacher?
EK: My favorite subject in school was my forensic class, my junior year. My forensic teacher, Mr. Fry, was one of my all-time favorite teachers. He was caring and really showed he loved the subject.
VYPE: What grade are you in and how long have you played volleyball?
EK: I am in 12th grade. I have played volleyball for six years, this includes school, club, and beach teams.
VYPE: What part of your game is most improved coming into this season?
EK: Coming into this season I feel like I have improved as a setter because last year I was a DS and was strictly passing. I have really had to work hard to get back to being a great setter for my teammates.
VYPE: Jump serve or standing serve? Which do you prefer and why?
EK: I prefer jump serving. This is because I can get more power on the ball and have a more aggressive serve compared to stand serving.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
EK: I love all of my teammates because of how close everyone is. My teammates are so kind and caring. I am so thankful to be part of a great team. We all hype each other up, whether it’s winning a game or during a tough drill.
VYPE: What teammate is always going to the floor for a dig?
EK: Presley Cooksey and Ava Cathcart are the ones to ALWAYS dig a ball up. No matter where it is or how hard it’s coming they will get it up!
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life?
EK: My mom is the biggest influence in my life. She is there for me no matter what and always knows exactly what to say. She encourages me and pushes me to be my best.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
EK: In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, working out, playing pickleball, and shopping.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
EK: After I graduate, I plan on going to OU and majoring in public health.
