Cale Marley
Rejoice Christian School
VYPE: Cale, now that the season is here and games are underway, what can Rejoice fans expect to see when they come to a game?
Cale Marley: When fans come to the game, they are going to see a team that loves and plays for each other. Our main goal as a team is to glorify God in the way we play on the field.
VYPE: Who are some teammates that are really impressing you this season?
CM: I’ve been most impressed on offense by WR Ben Nichols, WR Zizi Okwufuluweze, and OT Jett McCain. On defense Kamieon Nero-Compton at SS, Noah Goodwin at MLB, and lastly Karsten Lohse at DT. If you don’t know these names, I promise you will soon these guys are about to make some huge noise on Friday nights.
VYPE: What’s a position you don’t play that you would like to try?
CM: I like to say I’m an ATH, so I’ve played most positions in my high school career but one position I’ve never played is offensive line. I don’t have the build for it, but I would love to play in the trenches and try and hold my own.
VYPE: What’s it like being a coach’s kid?
CM: It’s definitely interesting, but over time I’ve come to really appreciate it. Being around football my whole life and getting first-hand knowledge from my dad has really grown me as a player. I think he naturally is a little harder on me though.
VYPE: In your life, you have played a lot of sports. What’s one memory you have kept from your early days that you might carry with you through life?
CM: I remember one time in sixth grade I scored an in the park home run. I could never get it over the fence but running the bases I could do.
VYPE: What is your go-to pregame meal and how do you celebrate a win?
CM: My go to pregame meal, is Gibby C’s pasta, and to celebrate wins the majority of the team eats at B-dubs afterwards.
VYPE: What legacy do you want to leave for players coming up behind you and the little guys who are playing youth football?
CM: I want to set a standard that will always be held in the years to come. I hope that I am an example of what a Rejoice football player should look like on and off the field, and I’m definitely not perfect but I hope I can spur the younger generations to play for Christ.
VYPE: Who is a big inspiration in your life, on or off the field?
CM: Will Lambley is a huge inspiration to me. He lost his sight as a sophomore in high school and is now a motivational speaker that is on staff with the Arkansas football team. The way he handles adversity and lives is a huge inspiration to me.
VYPE: What is your must-see football movie?
CM: Rudy, is hands down my go to. Inspirational.
VYPE: Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?
CM: Most interesting person I have ever met is my friend and fellow teammate Neil Leber. I met him at school, but the plan is to meet him in the end zone this year.
VYPE: Best kept secret about being a student at Rejoice Christian?
CM: The best thing about being a student at Rejoice is, no lie, having the absolute best teachers that care deeply about us. They truly try their best to build relationships with their students.
VYPE: Give me your dream scenario for this season?
CM: Gold ball!
