Rejoice Christian’s Cassidy Hurst – Volleyball Spotlight

Volleyball’s popularity has maintained a tremendous following in Oklahoma for decades. At Rejoice Christian, the volleyball team coached by Sarah Willis is ranked No.8 in Class 3A and one their way to another great season.

Cassidy Hurst is a senior on the team and someone who has high expectations for the season.

“Our main expectation for the season is to win a state championship. We have a goal to finish with a winning record, but what really drives us is the belief that we have what it takes to go all the way. We’ve been working incredibly hard in practice, and we’re ready to leave it all on the court to achieve that,” said Hurst.

Playing an important role on the team, Hurst said she loves her teammates and the family atmosphere each person brings to the court.

“What I love most about my teammates at Rejoice is that they’re my family. We’re incredibly close, and I know I can count on them no matter what. They bring me so much joy, and I look forward to being with them every day. We support each other through hard times and celebrate the good times together. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to be on this journey with,” said Hurst.

Now a middle and outside hitter, Hurst started playing volleyball in the fifth grade. Today she is a member of STUCO, student leadership and National Honor Society, all while playing multiple sports including basketball and soccer. Hurst said her inspirations comes from a family member.

“My older brother, Clint, inspires me because of his work ethic and strong faith. He has so much courage, and he’s not afraid to take risks because he trusts in God’s plan. Watching him live his life so fearlessly truly inspires me to be a better person every day,” said Hurst.

In class, Hurst said her favorite subject is science and honors physics. After high school, Hurst plans to attend college and continue her volleyball career.

“My favorite teacher was my freshman speech teacher, Mrs. Staci Henson,” Hurst said. “After I graduate, my plan is to continue my volleyball career at the collegiate level. I also plan to pursue a degree in nursing.”
