Sperry’s Callie Wilson
Callie Wilson is a senior this year and a member of the varsity basketball team at Sperry High School. Wilson will play point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Pirates this season. Wilson said she loves being a student-athlete at SHS.
“I love being a student-athlete at SHS because the coaches and teachers are supportive of us and help us become better athletes and students,” Wilson said. “What I love most about my teammates is that they are supportive and always want the best for you and the team. They are also willing to sacrifice something to make the team better.”
Also a member of National Honor Society, Fellowship Christian Athletes, Student Council, and Key Club, Wilson said she enjoys her classes, but she does have her favorites.
“ ”“My favorite subject in school is history and my favorite teachers are Coach Brown, Coach Crace, and Mrs. Barnett.”
The senior said a former teammate has left an impression on her as Wilson continues to improve her game.
“A former teammate that left an impression on me was Lilly Travis. I have looked up to her since 7th grade because she is mentally strong and will always be there for you. She would do anything to help the team get better and play her hardest. She left everything she had on the court, and I try to model that,” Wilson said. “The part of my game that has improved coming into this season is my confidence. Last year I struggled some with shooting that ball but after getting thousands of repetitions in I feel confident in my shooting and my overall game.”
Wilson would like to play college basketball and work toward becoming a Nurse Practitioner after college.
