Nathan Hale Cheer- Team Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Driving School

Nathan Hale Cheer

Head coach Olivia Kalahar took over the Nathan Hale cheer program at the start of the school year and has worked wonders with her group this season.

Building a program is never easy, but coach Kalahar has not only developed a program that allows the student-athletes to be successful, but she has also created a new program for the underclassmen.

“I’ve seen a lot of hard work put in. We added a JV team this year and that required our captains to really step up and they were able to lead and teach very well,” Kalahar said. “This group is a great mixture of all classes and skill levels, but they all know they have the same goal and work towards that daily.”

Every cheer squad must overcome some adversity and Nathan Hale was not different this season. It’s something coach Kalahar said has helped them develop into the team they have become.

“I’m most proud of seeing them overcome obstacles. There were a lot of new things this year and that was a learning experience for all of us. Comparison is the thief of joy, and the squad learned to overcome that and enjoy cheering and competing and really grew as a family and a united team,” said Kalahar.

The captains played a big role this season helping the younger members of the team, but their leadership was far reaching and will create ripples in the program.

“Our head captain was Chauntavia and our co-captains were Mariyah and Brayden. Without them our squad would not have been able to achieve so much,” said Kalahar.

The future of the program is built on trust and hard work. Coach Kalahar is bringing new ideas and is driven to create a great environment for the team.

“This year has taught me so much and we have a lot of great ideas for the future. We plan on changing the Hale Cheer program up a bit to continue growth as a squad, a competitive team, and to build leaders in our school,” said Kalahar.
