Webster’s Izzy Oxford – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Arnold’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers

Volleyball is a team sport. “You can’t do it alone,” says Izzy Oxford, senior at Daniel Webster High School. Being surrounded by people who love volleyball as much as she does is Izzy’s favorite part of being on a team. They support one another like family, celebrating every win, big or small, together.

Izzy is passionate about the sport she says helped to heal her when she first began playing. Relying on her faith gives her strength on and off the court. “I would like to thank God for blessing me with the ability to play and my mom for her endless support. Without them, my volleyball journey wouldn’t be possible.

“My biggest inspiration is God. My faith is what keeps me grounded and focused, especially during tough moments in the game. I believe that with God’s guidance, I’m able to push myself beyond my limits and stay humble no matter what. It’s not just about winning for me; it’s about playing with purpose and using the talents He’s given me to the fullest,” she said.

Family brought Izzy to the game. Watching her sister play encouraged her to join. “My favorite memory playing on this team would be getting to play with my older sister, Emma,” said Izzy. Her love of the game has grown, as has her team family. Melissa Hon is a teammate Izzy is impressed by. “She has shown me how to stay calm even when I don’t feel calm. She is a great athlete who has a bright future ahead of her.”

Izzy’s favorite teacher is Coach Baker, who is also the athletic director at DWHS. He has made a significant impact on Izzy. “I don’t think I would still be into sports as much if it weren’t for him. He’s made an impact on my life without even knowing it.”

Izzy passes on this advice as she embarks on an unforgettable senior year. “Play with heart, because skill can win games, but passion and effort make you unforgettable.” After high school, Izzy plans to enlist in the National Guard and continue her sports journey in college.
