Will Roger’s Oscar Murillo
It’s a bittersweet season for Will Rogers High School senior Oscar Murillo. Since the age of five, Murillo has called the baseball diamond his second home. Now the senior prepares for his final season of prep ball as a Roper.
Coming into the season, Murillo has focused on setting and achieving his goals as a player and a teammate.
“My goals for this season are to put up good stats, win a lot more games than last season, and have fun with my teammates while trying to make a name for myself,” said Murillo.
A smooth shortstop with quick hands, a strong arm and all the athleticism you could want, Murillo said he is working on every aspect of his game to try and catch the eye of a college recruiter.
“ ”“My footwork is great for turning doubles and making tough plays. I can read the game well and can lead the infield with great confidence. One of the biggest things I have improved on is my mentality. I work hard to play but work harder to make sure my team and I have our heads are up,” said Murillo.
The senior said another Murillo on the team is someone everyone should watch this season.
“A teammate I have been impressed with this season has to be Victor Murillo. His skills and mentality on the field are outstanding. He is a very talented third baseman and Pitcher with variety of pitches, with a very good curveball and his fastball touching 83mph. He represented Mexico in late January in Puerto Rico and had an outstanding performance.
Murillo said he is inspired by his mother, believes in visualizing his game and practicing self-positivity, all while trying to reach his goals of helping his team win and playing at the next level. “My Goal after high school is to continue playing baseball in college and major in Construction Management. My goal is to keep playing the game I love and enjoy every moment of it. Visualizing a successful future for myself and help retire my mom,” said Murillo.
