WILL ROGERS ROPERS
Coach: BRENT SCOTT
1-9
OFFENSE
When the Ropers take the field this season, the team will be young, but eager to compete and raise their level of play under head coach Brent Scott. Coach Scott enters his second season at the helm of the program and is looking to increase numbers and field a competitive team this season. “It’s a very young team. Still learning the game of football. We will have a lot of players playing both ways. We’re a physical football team and expect lots of improvement from last year,” said coach Scott. The rebuild started with the offensive line, which could be a bright spot for the Ropers this season. James Schrader (6-1, 300, Sr.) will likely start at center giving the team some experience up front and a player who can move the line of scrimmage. Schrader will have some help in Ladell Clayton (6-3, 275, Sr.) at tackle. Clayton is a physical player who continues to improve with each snap. Shannon Lee (6-0, 220, Sr.) will lead the offense at quarterback giving the Ropers a player who can hurt an opponent with his arm or his legs. Getting most of the attention in the run game is Jeremy Ross (5-8, 155, Sr.) at running back. Ross has the quickness to make big plays this season and help the offense move the chains. Also look for Dalziel Olmos (5-9, 180, Jr.) to be a good change-of-pace at RB for the offense. The passing game will feature Richard Tolon (6-6, 195, Jr.). Tolon can play wide receiver or tight end where he is a difficult match-up for any defender.
DEFENSE
With five starters returning to the defense, the Ropers will lean on this unit to help keep the offense in games. As coach Scott mentioned, several players will see time on both sides of the ball this season including Olmos who will start at linebacker with Riley Feaugo (5-7, 175, Jr.). Both Olmos and Feaugo bring speed to the position and can help in pass coverage. Tolon and Jalen Estes (6-0, 200, Sr.) are the bookend defensive ends the Ropers will lean on for pressure on the opposing QB. With good speed and size, Tolon and Estes could see a lot of action in the 4-2-5 defense the Ropers will employ this season. Trevin Hawkins (5-10, 170, Jr.) is a versatile corner who can support stopping the run and make a difference for the team in multiple ways. Hawkins is joined in the secondary by safety Auburn Love (5-9, 155, So.). The secondary will play a key role in the overall success of the offense.
