KIEFER TROJANS
Coach: SHELDON FAIRCHILD
31-6
OUTLOOK
Kiefer softball looks to capitalize on momentum built over arguably its best two-year stretch in the program’s history. “Coming off of the first two state tournament appearances in school history, we are looking to continue that,” head coach Sheldon Fairchild said. Fairchild would take Wichita State commit Kammie Smith (Sr.) over anybody. She scored 47 runs on 56 hits last year with 56 RBI, 10 doubles, five home runs and a scorching fielding percentage at .992. “Kammie is the best player in the state in my opinion,” Fairchild said. “In three years, she has made six errors, four of those in her freshman year; struck out three times. She can flat play.” C Lillian Bacon, an East Central University commit, doesn’t get all the shine but has a major impact on the Trojans’ success. She hit 39 balls for 38 RBI and six home runs last year for a .433 average. “She [Bacon] is another senior who can go but does not get a lot of attention. She is one of the best catchers I have ever seen and can rake,” Fairchild said. Caley Smith (Jr.) went 10-4 in the circle as a sophomore with 59 Ks and an ERA of 1.71. “She [Smith] came on last year and became our No. 1 pitcher and even when she was not in the circle was still the biggest cheerleader of them all,” Fairchild said. Fairchild expects several underclassmen to follow up on impressive freshman years. Trinity Roskydoll (So.) scored 15 runs last year and fielded .952 in the outfield. Rhyan Counts (So.), a true utility player, scored 18 runs and 12 RBI while fielding .953. “[Counts] could have a big impact on our year,” Fairchild said. The Trojans open the season at 5 p.m. Monday, August 12 at Keys then host Keys the following day at the same time for their home-opener.
