Bixby’s Jadyn Roller
VYPE: What challenges do girls face in wrestling and how did you overcome them?
Jadyn Roller: Freshman year I had to compete on the boys team because we did not have a girls team yet. That was definitely a challenge, but I would not change it because it shaped me into the athlete/person I am today. Also, girls wrestling has grown in the last few years.
VYPE: What life lesson has wrestling taught you?
JR: Nothing is ever given to you so just work as hard as you can for it.
VYPE:Why are you passionate about wrestling?
JR: I love that wrestling rewards people who work hard and it teaches you lifelong lessons.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
JR: My Mimi, Bev Roller. She is the strongest person I know. If I could be like her someday, my goal will be accomplished.
“ ”VYPE: How did you start wrestling?
JR: I had always been around the sport but I had never tried it for myself. I ended up wrestling because I quit gymnastics. My dad told me I was not just going to sit around the house and be lazy, so he took me to a practice, and I quickly fell in love with the sport.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your school?
JR: I’ve been a Spartan my whole life. I just love competing for the town I grew up in around my family and friends.
VYPE: What is your favorite wrestling accomplishment?
JR: Winning state three times and having the ability to go for my fourth this year.
VYPE: What is the best advice you have been given?
JR: Wrestling does not define me. It’s just something I do that I love and do for fun.
VYPE: Where was your favorite vacation and why?
JR: Florida with all of my family. We had just found out my Nana had terminal cancer. We all wanted to take a trip with her because it was the last time most people got to travel with her before she passed away.
