Sapulpa’s Ivan Cruz
VYPE: Ivan, what grade are you in and when did you start playing soccer?
Ivan Cruz: I’m currently a freshman and I started playing soccer for a team called the Tornadoes when I was six. A year later I moved to Tulsa Soccer Club and I’m still there.
VYPE: Are you sticking with TSC?
IC: This is my last season at TSC as I have signed for MLS Next Tulsa Greenwood SC.
VYPE: What position do you play?
IC: I have played all positions in soccer, really just depending on where the coach needs me, but I always play center forward or winger.
VYPE: What is your best skill and what have you improved on this year?
IC: I think I am a very smart and technical player, but there is always room for improvement.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
IC: I love to spend time with my family. My family has been there for me since day one, so I love to be there for them. Family and friends are important to me.
VYPE: What are your plans for the summer?
IC: I work a fulltime job with my dad at Cross Electric and then I come back in the afternoon to train with my team on the field after a hard days work.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team at SHS?
IC: I am really happy I got into the Sapulpa soccer team. Everyone has been really good with me. Thank you, team and coaches!
VYPE: Who inspires you?
IC: I have always been inspired by Lionel Messi. He is a left footer like me, do I feel like I can learn a lot from him.
VYPE: What are your plans for life after high school? IC: I would like to have two or three choices. First, play professional soccer. Second, Electrician like my dad. Third, lean mechanical so I can start my own HVAC company.
