Berryhill Softball’s Kelcee Henry – Coach Spotlight – Presented by Dale’s Sales

Berryhill softball coach Kelcee Henry is a graduate of Miami High School, but she now calls Berryhill home. She got her start in coaching as an assistant coach at her alma-mater.

“I didn’t really know I wanted to be a coach until I had my first assistant coaching job. This wouldn’t have been possible without Lauren Strack [current Miami softball coach]. She coached me in high school, so getting to go coach with her was awesome and she prepared me to have my own program,” said Henry.

That experience is something coach Henry leans on today.

“The way I was coached shows up in my day to operations here. I teach the same work ethic that was instilled in me from my high school days,” said Henry.

Coach Henry wants her players to take lessons learned on the field, into their lives long after they are done with Berryhill softball.

“I teach my teams to be classy and let their caliber of play talk for itself. Fans should expect to see a team that gives their max effort every day, hustles, and builds each other up,” said Henry.

The amount of work that goes into a season is impressive.

“I don’t think casual fans really understand the amount of work that is poured into a season. Players give up a lot of time to perfect their game. I see kids get down on themselves and I know it’s because they expect more from themselves and feel like they have let their team down, but I think others will think it’s just a “bad attitude,” said Henry.

But the town and the school are supportive of the team and it’s something not lost on coach Henry and her staff.

“Berryhill is full of supportive administration, parents, fans, and staff. They are friendly and always there to help if there is a need. I really am lucky to work in such a great district. They make that part of my job a lot easier,” said Henry. “My assistant coach is Taylor McPherson. I couldn’t get through it without her!”

Henry said without the support of her family and work family, coaching and teaching would be impossible. Coach Henry currently teaches psychology, a subject she loves, and raising two kids with her husband.
