Berryhill is known for being hard working, tough team. That applies to the football field, the wrestling mat, softball field or anywhere Berryhill shows up to play. One player for the Chiefs, Harrison Vaughn, is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end and is as tough as they come. Vaughn started playing football at a very young age.
“I started playing football in kindergarten and played through my third grade year. I ended up quitting after that and started playing again in the seventh grade and have not looked back,” said Vaughn.
Under the leadership of coach Pat Harper, the Chiefs are poised for another solid season and Vaughn said there are many positives he sees from his teammates.
“Some of the positives I see in our football team are a bunch of hardworking men. Every person on this team wants to win just as much as the person next to them,” said Vaughn.
“Berryhill is a great place to be as a student-athlete because the support system around you is very strong. Whether it’s the coaches pushing you to be the best you can be, or the community supporting everything that we do. My teammates are my brothers. Most of us have been with each other from the very beginning which adds a level of chemistry some places might not have.”
Vaughn brings a strong work ethic to the field.
“My strong work ethic comes from me just being a determined individual. If you work hard, it’s gonna pay off one way or another,” said Vaughn.
He credits his father for always being there to support and help when needed.
“The person that has made the biggest impact on my life is my dad. Whether it’s encouraging me through those rough days and night or getting me the essentials I need to be able to complete and be successful. I really wouldn’t be able to do anything without him,” said Vaughn.
Vaughn would like to continue his playing career at the next level and pursue a degree in finance.
