Varsity volleyball player Maddie Stephenson is an outside hitter who can play all around the court for head coach Kalie Carlile. Being comfortable in any position is not easy, but for Stephenson, helping the team find success on the court is a big priority.
With any new season come new expectations. For Stephenson, finding team chemistry and growing as players is the goal.
“My expectation for this season is to grow a stronger connection with my team, grow in skills, and compete to my full ability,” Stephenson said. “What I love most about my team is how everyone makes sure you feel included and appreciated.”
Stephenson started her volleyball journey in middle school and is now a junior in high school and planning what life will look like after graduation in 2027.
“I first started volleyball in seventh grade and played my first year of club in seventh grade at 11,” Stephenson said. “After I finish high school, I plan to go to college and study to become a speech therapist.”
The junior said she draws inspiration from her parents.
“My parents inspire me because they are hard workers, always strive to do their best, and have always been there for me,” said Stephenson.
That work ethic has rubbed off onto Stephenson who is involved in several other activities including National Honor Society and track, which she competes in during the spring semester.
Stephenson said she has her favorites at school. From a favorite subject to a favorite teacher.
“My favorite subject is math, and my teacher is Mrs. Allen. She takes the time to teach you the material and always takes her time to make sure you are learning to your fullest.”
Away from school you can usually find Stephenson hanging out with friends, going on drives, and spending time with family.
