Bixby Boys Basketball
In his first season at the helm of the Spartan ship, coach Jordan Nagel is excited to have this group returning to the court and he’s looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish this season.
With several seniors in the lineup, leadership and experience will not be an issue of the Spartans.
“This is my first year at Bixby, and I couldn’t ask for a better group. Our kids work extremely hard and are very coachable. We will be led by strong seniors in Griffin Stewart, Tyler Wright, and Anthony Walters all returning starters from last season. Griffin gives us a physical presence in the paint and has made big strides in toughness and confidence over the summer. Tyler is a standout two-sport athlete, who brings a fabulous scoring ability and leadership after excelling on both the football field and the court. Anthony is an extremely versatile guard who can defend, rebound, and score the basketball,” said coach Nagel.
That trio will give opponents problems. Griffin Stewart (6-6, Sr.) will likely start at center with Tyler Wright (6-2, Sr.) and Anthony Walters (6-2, Sr.) at guard. Wright is a lefty and a multi-sport athlete for the Spartans. He had a 48-point performance against a Class 6A opponent last season showing he can explode for big numbers.
A group of younger players are stepping up and filling in where needed. Coach Nagel said this group is a talented enough to play some key minutes this year.
“A talented younger core will also play key minutes. Freshman Isaac Harris has already proven himself as a sharpshooter who is growing in confidence and impact each day. Junior transfer Cooper Coons from Verdigris, whose relentless work ethic and versatile scoring make him an exciting addition to the program,” coach Nagel said. “As the year goes on and our guys settle into the system, we’ll continue to improve especially once football season is over, and we all get on the court together.”
Harris (6-1, Fr.) is known for his shooting, toughness and skill level as a freshman. Coons (6-1, Jr.) comes into the program bringing his tremendous work ethic to the court. Other players to watch include Jackson McCarter (5-9, Sr.) at guard, Connor Cook (6-5, Sr.) at forward, Landen Walkingbull (6-5, Sr.) at forward, Jack Gill (6-2, Jr.) at forward, Lincoln Fugate (6-1, Jr.) at forward, Cole Seager (6-3, Jr.) at guard, Aidan White (6-2, So.) at guard, Kyler McGuire (6-0, So.) at guard and Hunter Cox (6-1, So.) at guard.
