Bixby Wins 8th Straight – Presented by Tulsa Bone & Joint

The Spartans left it all on the field this season facing the top talent in Class 6A-I.

The path to the Spartans 8th title in as many years pitted Bixby against East side foes such as Union, Broken Arrow and Owasso.

The Owasso Rams defeated the Jenks Trojans in the semifinals to punch their ticket to the championship game at the University of Central Oklahoma, where they would face Bixby who rolled through the competition this season.

In the playoffs, Bixby defeated Union, 51-14, then made short work of Broken Arrow in the semifinals, 49-17, setting up a championship matchup with the Rams.

Bixby’s Jayson Moll had a huge game on the ground rushing for 169 yards on 22 carries, scoring one touchdown. The senior continued his high level of production against one of the better defenses the Spartans faced all year.

Carson Kirby made a big play in the fourth quarter when he scrambled for a 5-yard touchdown to put Bixby up, 24-14. The Spartan would go on to win the game, 31-17.

Defensively several players stepped up making big plays for the Spartans. Senior Cord Nolan made nine tackles with one sack from his linebacker spot. Nolan also played tight end where he added a touchdown reception. Nolan is headed to Texas Tech in the next fall.

Standout player Braeden Presley was recently honored with the Lee Snider Gridiron Award, given to the best All-Around athlete on the field and in the classroom and Carson Kirby received the Tom Boone Player of the Year award.

With a perfect season in the books, the Spartans will savor the win, but coach Montgomery and the Spartan coaching staff are looking forward to next season. The win marked the Spartans 11th state title in 12 years and the school’s 29th state title overall. Since Montgomery’s arrival, the Bixby Spartans have been the most dominant football team in Oklahoma.
