Why Cooper Parker Loved Football
As a varsity football player for the Spartans, there are many reasons why Cooper Parker loves the game of football. From the physicality of the game to his teammates, Parker said it all comes together when he steps onto the field with his guys.
“I love the physicality and the competitiveness of the game,” Parker said. “I love the guys on the team because it’s not just guys you go and play a sport with, it’s family and you can always talk to them whether it’s in a funny way or if you really need something those guys are always there.”
Parker’s mental preparation for a game starts the morning of not while dressing in the locker room.
“I get more nervous the morning of games more than I do 30 minutes before kickoff,” said Parker.
As a competitor and someone who wants to win, Parker has developed a tremendous work ethic which he believes simply comes naturally.
“My work ethic has always came natural to me. I’ve always wanted to be the best version of myself possible, also with a little bit of a height disadvantage I have to outwork people that are taller,” said Parker.
When asked about his teammates and who brings the physicality to the field and who brings the speed, Parker wasted no time answering.
“Trey McGlothlin definitely hits the hardest, been doing it since 6th grade, and Blake Hogshooter has the best 40 time, somewhere in the low 4.4s,” said Parker.
As this season plays out, Parker said there is only one goal in mind for the Spartans.
“I see the season playing out with us holding that gold ball up in Edmond, but we have to take it one game at a time and focus on the task at hand each week,” said Parker.
Parker said his parents have made a big impact in his life.
“The biggest impact in my life are my parents. From youth football up until middle school, my dad was my coach and he’s always pushed me to be great, and while he was coaching my mom would always be in the stands at every game supporting me,” said Parker.
Setting goals for his future and finding ways to spend his free time give Parker an opportunity to relax and focus on everything else in life. “When I have downtime, I enjoy watching sports, Netflix, and playing some golf,” Parker said. “The goal after high school is to continue playing college football and get a finance degree. I’m unsure about what college yet.”
