Bixby’s Kerrington Campbell – Presented by Dental Care of Bixby

Bixby High School sophomore Kerrington Campbell is more than ready to get the season underway. The underclassman is looking forward to helping this team reach their ultimate goal of winning a state title. As a true point guard, Campbell has worked to develop her skills to be more of a combo guard for head coach Rylie Littlejohn.

“The short answer is to WIN THE GOLD BALL!  The real question is how we get there? We always set team and individual goals for each season and if we can achieve those it should put us right where want at the end of the season. We graduated one starter from last season, and we have another working hard to get back from injury, so we all have our own roles that we need to play in order to win the state title. For me personally, I want to make sure I am the girl my team knows they can depend on every time we are on the court,” Campbell said.

The chemistry and culture is another reason the sophomore believes they have what it takes to win.

“I would say that our culture at Bixby and the closeness we have created. Each girl and coach on the team truly cares about each other and it’s like a big family. Don’t get me wrong, every practice is a battle and there are defiantly some bruises most days but at the end of the day we all have the same goal and are working together to achieve it. Each of these girls care about faith, family and friendship and it shows in the way we interact on and off the court,” Campbell said.

Having teammates with different personalities helps make that chemistry work. Campbell said a few standout for their leadership and ability to help the team stay focused.

“I would say the seniors are the most vocal. They make sure you are always on your best behavior but ultimately bought into the process. Kate Datel is by far the funniest. Always making jokes out of any situation even if it should not be funny,” Campbell said.

Campbell finds inspiration in someone close to her in life.

“My grandpa inspires me the most because of his work ethic and drive. As well as never failing to make time for his family and always put them first,” Campbell said.

As for her future in school and basketball, Campbell is keeping her options open. For now, she is enjoying the process in high school and embracing all of the challenges.

“My goal is to earn a scholarship and opportunity to play basketball in college and continue playing. If that is not God’s plan, I will be a killer on my intermural basketball team! For future career thoughts, I’m still a sophomore so lots could change but I love sports and enjoy watching them so I had thought a little about anesthesiology,” said Campbell. “I would say my favorite subject is math I will always understand it even if it takes a week or so. My favorite teacher I have had so far is Mrs. Williams, she always made me feel wanted and smart as well as never letting us have a dull moment and always asking about our life outside of school.”

Campbell is involved in many activities around campus.

“Currently I am involved in several different clubs and organizations. I have been in the National Charity League for four years and currently serve as the President for my grade. I also spent my time in STUCO and Leadership for Bixby,” Campbell said.

During her free time, Campbell said she enjoys being with friends and family.

“I always enjoy any time that I get with my family, friends, and time with the Lord. I have my older sister who just went to college and my little brother who is a 7th grader. So, any free time I have will be spent with one of those three things,” Campbell said.
