Bixby’s Rylee Bayouth

Resilience has shaped much of senior Rylee Bayouth’s cheer journey. As a self-proclaimed team motivator, Bayouth takes her role on the Bixby cheer squad seriously.

“I always cheer my teammates on,” she says.

Outside of entertaining spectators at games, Bayouth believes the real purpose of cheer is to boost spirit and enthusiasm, not only for those watching, but also for each other.

Bayouth’s time as a cheerleader has been marked by significant challenges, such as position changes and injuries, which have also provided opportunities for growth.

“The biggest challenge I have had to face as a cheerleader is having to switch positions from being a flyer to a back spot my junior and senior year,” Bayouth reflects. “I have accepted that things take time and it’s all about being patient and trusting that what is meant to be will happen.”

The position change tested her adaptability and gave her a chance to understand different perspectives within the team. The next biggest challenge, Bayouth explains, was recovering from a broken back. Still, she remained positive and steadily climbed her way back to the top.

“I had to work really hard to get all my skills back in a short amount of time,” she adds.

The recovery process demanded discipline, focus, and an unwavering belief in herself. Bayouth explains that pushing through that season of uncertainty taught her to value both her mental and physical strength.

Cheer has taught her valuable lessons along the way, such as the importance of self-care and trusting the process.

“Sometimes I have to put myself first,” Bayouth says, adding that learning to trust the process has been a key component of her successful student-athlete career. Her dedication to the team and making space for self-care have paved the way for unforgettable experiences.

The moment that stood out was winning NCA not once, but twice, and getting to celebrate with her coaches and teammates.

“Hard work and a good attitude does pay off,” shares Bayouth. She also recalls the “unforgettable” championship game against Owasso, where Bixby claimed their 7th consecutive state championship.

Through it all, Bayouth’s mix of perseverance, positivity, and team spirit have not only defined her cheer career but has also inspired her teammates and coaches.
