Bixby’s Tyler Wright – Presented by Dental Arts of Bixby

By Trina Walker

The side-by-side competition with his brothers on the court makes basketball Tyler Wright’s favorite sport. Wright is a senior at Bixby High School and a proud leader for the Spartans on and off the court.

He has had a basketball in his hands for as long as he can remember.

“I first got into my sport before I even knew what it was. Ever since I was super young, I always had a ball in my hand,” Wright said.

Many memories have been made while playing basketball. Overnight stays for tournaments are some of the best times he has had with his team. He is passionate about the sport he loves and his team, which is like a family. Basketball is more than just a sport; it has taught him life lessons he can take off the court.

“The sport has taught me how to overcome adversity and to just keep going,” Wright said.

The teammate who helped Wright grow his game is Parker Friedrichsen. The valuable skills he learned from Friedrichsen left a big impression on Wright.

Representing his school as a student-athlete is an opportunity to show others the high standards of BHS. Wright has a deep respect for his coaches and wants to represent them in a way that lets others see how good his coaches are.

The people who inspire Wright the most are his parents. They have set the example to teach him that through hard work, one can achieve the results they want. Wright thanks his parents as well as his coaches, who have helped him grow as a basketball player and as a person.

“The best advice anyone has given to me is probably just to stay true to myself and if you stick to the grind, things will come. You just have to work hard,” Wright says.

BHS counselor, Mrs. Machado, is Wright’s favorite teacher. While not his classroom teacher, he says her guidance has been very helpful.

Wright enjoys traveling with his family. The best vacation they took was a few years ago to Paris. He got to see the Eiffel Tower and had a really good time. In his free time, Wright likes to golf. After high school, he plans to attend college, where he hopes to play either football or basketball.
