Broken Arrow’s Haleigh Thayer

Finishing up her sophomore year, Broken Arrow High School’s Haleigh Thayer said this season on the varsity cheer team has been her most memorable season yet.

“This season has to be one of my most memorable seasons and my favorite moment was probably winning Gameday State or Gameday at UCA Nationals,” said Thayer.

The sophomore started cheering when she was only seven years old. During her time as a cheerleader, Thayer has competed in many competitions and gained a lot of experience on the mat and on the sideline.

“I have lots of experience with All-Star cheer which means performance state and nationals was what I was good at, so trying high school cheer was going to be a push and I never thought that I would be a gameday type of cheerleader and this season I grew as an athlete and expanded my horizons and ended up being on both gameday mats,” said Thayer.

Thayer loves being part of the team and adores her teammates.

“One thing I love most about my teammates is that we’re all super close, like we are all friends with each other, and no one really doesn’t like one another,” Thayer said. “I have been impressed by Reese Murphree, although I have never done high school cheer, she always viewed me as someone who was a great cheerleader along with being a great role model and she has shown me what it means to be a BA cheerleader.”

When her high school days come to an end, Thayer hopes to cheer at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree.
