Coweta’s Hailey Beers
By Ivy Knapp
For Coweta High School senior Hailey Beers, cheerleading has been more than just a sport. It has been a part of her life since she was a first grader. Now in her senior year, Hailey is looking forward to the journey that has shaped her into a strong athlete and role model for her teammates.
“I’ve been cheering since first grade,” Beers said. “It’s something that has always been a part of me, and I can’t imagine high school without it.”
Hailey says being a student-athlete at Coweta is special because of the friendships she’s made and the goals her team has been able to achieve together.
“We’ve grown so much as a team. It’s about more than just cheering. It’s about working together and celebrating each other’s success.”
When asked about her favorite place to cheer, Friday night football games under the lights are on the top of her list.
“There’s just nothing like it,” she explained. “When your team wins and you’re jumping up and down with your teammates, that feeling is the best. The energy in the stands, the parents and students all cheering. It’s something you never forget.”
A big influence in Hailey’s life has been her sister, who has always encouraged her through the ups and downs of high school.
“She pushes me and supports me. Having her by my side has made such a difference.” Hailey said.
This season, Hailey says she’s been impressed by the freshman on the team.
“They came in with such good attitudes and a willingness to work. It’s really inspiring to see them step up.”
Other than cheer, Hailey is also involved in National Honor Society and NASO, a group that focuses on teaching Native students about their history and culture. She strives to do her best academically and athletically.
When asked what role she plays on the squad, Hailey is her team’s number one advocate.
“I try to be an encouraging figure for the girls. I want them to feel seen and supported, because that’s what makes a team strong.”
Practices are strenuous, with two hours every day devoted to preparing for competitions. And while she’s made a lot of memories, one of the craziest moments came at a cheer competition.
“Everyone was yelling, dancing, and getting involved. It was so crazy but also so much fun.” Beers explained.
As her senior year comes to a close, Hailey is preparing for the next chapter in life. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma and pursue a degree in nursing.
Looking back, Hailey hopes she’ll be remembered for her leadership, encouragement, and love for her team. “Cheer has taught me so much,” she said. “It’s made me who I am today.”
