Glenpool Warriors Football Team Preview – Presented by BancFirst Glenpool

GLENPOOL WARRIORS
 Coach: PAYTON WERNER

1-9

OFFENSE
In his first season at the helm of the Warrior football program, coach Payton Werner is excited to bring a new chapter to Warrior Nation. “We have a great group of kids that are hungry to compete and ready to lay it on the line for their teammates. This year we have adopted the motto “CHASE.” Our goal is to wake up every day and chase the best version of the man in the mirror,” said coach Werner. “We’ve also coined the term “GlenVegas.” Las Vegas is viewed as a vacation destination or a paradise for a large number of Americans. Glenpool is our paradise day in and day out, therefore we’ve adopted the term as a reminder to make the big time on our own doorstep and avoid living in comparisons.” Lane Jiles (6-2, 235, Jr.) will play both sides of the ball this season giving the Warriors someone who can play TE on offense and DE/LB on defense. The Warriors have experience at QB in Mark Mata (6-0, 185, Jr.) and Peyton Surrett (Jr.). Both guys are capable of handling the job. Tamarion Braxton will handle the duties at running back while Landon Pangle (6-0, 215, Jr.) and London Ross will start up front. Also look for Jadyn Sanders to play a key role at WR.

DEFENSE

Mata will slide to the defensive side of the ball and play outside linebacker with Jiles likely seeing time at LB or DE. Laron Johnson (Jr.) is a versatile trench warrior who can play end or tackle. Expect to see Sanders in the defensive secondary where his ball skills will come into play. Same can be said for Surrett. The defense will base out of a 3-4 with the ability to easily slide into a 4-man front. “We believe in being fast, physical, simple, and playing with relentless effort,” said coach Werner. Devin Bailey Jr. is a track standout who can help the Warriors on special teams. As he develops, don’t be surprised if you see him playing on offense and defense this season. Skylan Sanders is a leader on the team and someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. The coaching staff includes Rusty Davis, Branson Straessle, Paxton Straessle, Jessie Hodge, Ryan Winn, Conner Williams, Chase Frazier, Izack Wilson, and Jay Bible.
