Glenpool’s Jonas Boyd – Presented by BancFirst

By Mike Moguin

Glenpool senior Jonas Boyd is expected to make an impact for the basketball team this season. Head coach Randall Gibson said Boyd is a great leader by example.

“Jonas has been a great leader by example throughout the summer and looks ready to help lead the team this year as a senior. He looks to play a bigger role in the offense and has improved his game from last year. He is a great student who attends TCC concurrently, and is a senior others look up to. He will have a very productive season this year.”

The Warriors’ point guard, who also runs track, had many positive influences throughout his involvement his sports. The person who has inspired him the most, he said, is Logan Harris.

“He helped the most through basketball and life,” Boyd said.

Elijah Boyd, who graduated last year, is the teammate who has given him quite a bit of motivation.

“He drove me to be more competitive,” Boyd said.

And there is his favorite educator. Like many of his peers at GHS, Boyd has embraced his education thanks to the efforts of the educators in school.

“Ms. Peterson. She had the most impact out of all my teachers,” Boyd said.

Playing basketball and running track has taught Boyd leadership, he said. Going to state his first year in track is an accomplishment that he is proud of. Boyd’s favorite college and NBA teams are Princeton and the Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively.

Xaivian Lee, who has played the past three seasons at Princeton but has now transferred to Florida, is Boyd’s favorite college basketball player.

When he puts on his Glenpool blue and gray uniform, he is excited about “playing in front of the supportive community,” he said.

Outside of sports, this Warrior athlete likes to make money and spend time with family and friends. The player/coach relationship is a special one at GHS.

“Shout out to Coach Gibson,” Boyd said.
