Glenpool’s Lydia Wells – Softball Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst Glenpool

Lydia Wells

Glenpool High School

Lydia Wells, a freshman on Glenpool’s softball team, is looking forward to the next four years.

“My goals are to show who I am and to grow towards my full potential. I want to maintain high grades and I want to go to state with my team,” Wells said. “I want to break some records and have successful seasons. I want to help my team as much as I can, and I hope to eventually become a leader on the team.”

Wells also wrestles, runs track and is pursuing membership in NHS this year. She also competes for Iowa Premier Softball in the offseason.

“Lydia has proven herself with her work ethic in our JH program. She is a multi-sport athlete who plays softball year-round at a high level,” Glenpool head softball coach Randall Gibson said. “She will step in and fill in at catcher. She is a very experienced catcher who also carries a strong bat. We look forward to this addition to help our program.”

Wells credits her family’s role in her athletic career’s hot start.

“I have a large support system, including my grandma, aunts and uncles. I also have a dog named Fergie. My dad wrestled D1 then transferred to play football in college. My brother is a successful wrestler still in college and played multiple sports in high school. I would say this definitely motivates me to play at the next level,” Wells said. “My family supports me by showing up to events and allowing me to travel to show my talent. They coach me, guide me and help me improve every day.”

Wells hopes to grow into a team leader.

“To me, it means being someone who you can trust and know will be there for you. To me, it also means being able to glorify God and to have experience others can learn from,” Wells said.

Wells’ faith “means everything” to her.

“I couldn’t do anything without God. I put my faith in him and trust as he already has a plan for me.”
