Glenpool’s Sophie Leeper – Softball Spotlight

Glenpool’s Sophie Leeper

Sophie Leeper is a senior at Glenpool High School where she is a member of the varsity softball team. Leeper has played the sport since the sixth grade, and she loves her position on the field.

“I started playing softball in sixth grade on OK Rumble and I have played school ball and competitive ever since,” Leeper said. “I play first base. The thing that I like most about first is that I am involved in almost every play that happens on the field.”

Being a member of the team is something special for Leeper and she loves being around her teammates and competing with them on the field.

“The thing I love most about my team and teammates at Glenpool is that everyone is always cheering each other on. Whether that is coaches or players, I can always hear cheering and encouragement from the dugout,” said Leeper.

This season the Lady Warriors under head coach Jessica Carter is off to a solid start with several big wins over opponents like Sapulpa, Locust Grove, Wagoner and Inola. Leeper said the team is focused and ready to compete.

“I have high expectations for this season. I think that my team is good enough to win our district and have a good chance at going to state,” said Leeper.

Aside from softball, Leeper is involved in student council, student life, National Honor Society and the Warrior Media Network. Leeper said she does have her favorites in class.

“My favorite subject at school is Math. My favorite teacher was my math teacher from 7th and 8th grade math, Ms. McGuire.

The senior said she is inspired by her father, and she plans to attend college once her playing days come to an end at GHS.

“He coached me for many years and made me love the game of softball,” Lepper said. “After I graduate, I plan to go play college softball somewhere. I am still undecided of where I want to go, but I know I want to go into sports medicine and be a sports physical therapist.”

When she’s not playing ball or working on something for school, you can usually find Leeper enjoying her time off, spending it with family and friends.

“In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends. I like playing pickleball, going shopping, or just staying in and watching a movie,” said Leeper.

Catch Leeper and the Lady Warriors as they close out the regular season with two games on the road to Checotah and Stilwell before playing four home games against Kiefer, Sapulpa, Inola and Checotah.
