In the Pool with Bixby’s Presley Smerczynski – Presented by Sigler Heat and Air

VYPE: What grade are you in?

Presley Smerczynski: I am in 12th grade.

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at Bixby HS?

PS: I love the support! Being on this team has been one of my greatest blessings and they have become my family! Being able to show up and represent Bixby in my sport is such a joy and honor to be a part of alongside my best friends and the best coaches!

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

PS: The support and relationships! We truly are like a family and having so many people to lean on, cheer in, and experience all the wins and losses together is such a gift!

VYPE: What’s your favorite subject in school and do you have a favorite teacher?

PS: My favorite subject is probably a science, or my leadership class. One of my favorite teachers is my leadership teacher, coach Burkert!

VYPE: Which teammate always impresses you the most or do you have a former teammate who left an impression on you?

PS: A teammate who impresses me daily is Kylie wise! She shows up every day no matter how she’s feeling, ready to give it her all! Her drive is like no other and she works very hard to achieve her goals!

VYPE: Who on the team keeps everyone laughing, who is the most serious and who has the best impression of your coach?

PS: One of our freshman boys, Keller, definitely always has the team laughing and in good spirits, I feel like we don’t have one set person whose always serious, but I would say freshman boy, Ethan, he’s always determined to do his best, push himself past his limits, and takes each practice and meet very seriously! I would also say that honestly all the seniors have a pretty good impression of coach David.

VYPE: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

PS: In my free time I love spending time with friends and family and being at church or listening to music!

VYPE: Best place for a swim meet?

PS: The best place for a swim meet would probably have to be Jenks, they do have a really nice pool, but I would also say at our pool! The atmosphere of being at your home is unmatched and always so fun and exciting!

VYPE: What is the toughest thing you do in practice?

PS: The toughest thing I do in practice is staying the course. Coach says this one all the time, in the practices where you are pushed to your limits it’s so important to get comfortable with the uncomfortable and keep going even when the sets are hard and you feel like giving up, but that is not easy at all, it’s totally a mental thing and you just have to keep going.

VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?

PS: After I graduate, I plan to go to college at UCO and I’d love to major in counseling psychology and special education! Getting involved with a church and finding ways to help and support others with my degree is what I plan for right now!
