Jenks’ Truman Brown – Golf Spotlight – Presented by Inkwell Printing

Jenks’ Truman Brown

Unlike many other sports, golf is a sport you can play for a lifetime. For Jenks High School’s Truman Brown, his golf journey started when he was in the first grade, and after a two-year break, he picked it up in again in the sixth grade and is now a freshman on the varsity team.

Brown said being with his teammates while in competition or just playing for fun is exactly where he wants to be.

“I love that we have a brotherhood like no other team in the state. Even during the summer, we are also together,” said Brown.

Every golfer has their favorite club to hit and a favorite course to play.

“My driver has gotten a lot better over the past year and has become my best strength,” Brown said. “My favorite course to play is Indian Springs CC lakes course, because that’s where I’ve grown up my whole life and I have so many memories on it. My best score out there is a (-5) 65.”

The freshman said being a student-athlete at Jenks is great thanks to the coaches and teachers at school.

“Jenks is a great athletic school because all of the teachers and staff understand what goes on outside of the classroom and are flexible whenever we miss school for our sports,” said Brown.

Brown said he’s been impressed with JP Coffman because of his work ethic in the offseason and Brown plans to follow in his footsteps this summer.

“Plans for the summer are playing and practicing golf all summer with my teammates getting ready for next year’s school season,” said Brown.

His goal is to one day sign a letter of intent to play golf in college. Brown said his grandfather is a source of inspiration.
“My grandpa would have to be my biggest inspiration on and off the course. Because of how he treats everyone with kindness and respect. He was also the reason why I started playing golf again. During tournaments I will always right his name on top of my ball.”
