Kiefer Spirit Team

When you talk about Kiefer cheer and pom, you must mention the two head coaches in charge of the program. Coach Tracie Sexson is the head cheer coach, while coach Sydney Rider serves as the head pom coach. Together they form one of the top spirit programs in Oklahoma.

Coach Sexson said both teams are competitive at their disciplines and are leaders on the Kiefer High School campus.

“The Kiefer Spirit Team consists of competitive cheerleaders and dancers. This unique team allows athletes to not only be school leaders on the sidelines but to compete in both cheer and pom. Every athlete cheers for football, basketball, and wrestling. Each athlete either competes in cheer, Pom, or both. Last year, the competitive cheerleading team placed 4th in 3A State. In their inaugural year, the Pom Team placed 3rd at OSDTDA State,” said coach Sexson.

With competitive cheer regionals and state rapidly approaching, athletes like Kenadie Duncan, Carli Brownfield, Dylin Burns, and Lexi Rowe alongside their teammates, are working hard to not only bring the spirit to Friday night, but to prepare for state. Duncan competes in both cheer and pom.

“Kenadie is a senior who competes in both cheer and pom. She has been on the varsity team for four years. She’s a strong leader not only on the sidelines and in competitions, but she is always leading the team in practices and at school events,” Sexson said.

Brownfield, Burns, and Rowe are all experienced athletes who bring a lot to the team.

“Carli [Brownfield] is a senior athlete who has been on the varsity team for four years. She has competed in both cheer and pom. This talented leader was instrumental in starting the competitive pom team at Kiefer,” Sexson said. “Dylin [Burns] is a talented sophomore who competes not only in school cheer but also in all-star cheer at SOCO. Due to her years of experience in the sport and in national competitions, this talented athlete brings a wealth of knowledge of the sport and stunting.”
