If you’re one of the lucky ones who get to continue your athletic career at the next level, playing your final season of prep sports is special. You know it’s your last go-around representing your school that has been part of your life for years. It also means you change colors, mascots, wardrobe and friends.
Coweta senior Olivia Brand started playing volleyball when she was in the fourth grade. This season she played DS/Outside and loved every minute of it.
“Coweta provides a supportive atmosphere, where both athletes and coaches encourage each other to be the best we can be,” said Brand.
The special bond between teammates is something Brand loves about the sport. From upcoming players taking over the program to those who keep everyone laughing, Brand said it’s about making memories.
“Ellie Foster is an upcoming player to keep an eye on. She’s a sophomore, she plays tough and steps up when we need her. Another strong player on the team is Alyssa Knapper. She’s super funny and always has positive energy, she’s a great teammate,” Brand said. “My favorite memory was during my sophomore year, when our team won regionals, earning a ticket to state.”
With another semester to go before the end of the school year, Brand said she has enjoyed her teachers and classes at CHS.
“My favorite subject is English. My favorite teacher is Mrs. Caywood, she is a fun and inspirational teacher,” said Brand.
Next season will see Brand in a new uniform, playing for a new school. It’s an exciting time for the soon-to-be freshman. “Plans after high school is to take this summer to prepare for my freshmen volleyball season at Labette College.”
