Q&A with Glenpool’s Kaden Witzel – Presented by RibCrib

VYPE: What grade are you in, and what age did you start wrestling?

Kaden Witzel: Junior. I started wrestling in 8th grade. I did a few years of youth from 1st-3rd.

VYPE: What weight are you wrestling this year?

KW: 190-pounds.

VYPE: What is the strength of your skill set and what have you improved on for this season?

KW: My strength is my endurance and cardio. My offense and take downs have improved this year.

VYPE: What makes GHS a great place for you as a student-athlete?

KW: My teachers at GHS are very supportive but beyond that our coaching staff is hands down the best. Coach Wilson and Coach Dalton have pushed and supported me in my wrestling career.

VYPE: Have you been impressed with a teammate this season or have a former teammate who left an impression on you?

KW: My former teammate Trent Cole was a great athlete, but he taught me about being humble at the same time.

VYPE: Which teammate keeps everyone laughing, who is the most serious?

KW: I’d say we have several athletes that bring humor, but Cade Collins stands out.

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare yourself for competition?

KW: I try to stay out of my own head and focus on what I can control.

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

KW: As a team we have the same goals and work well together.

VYPE: What’s the goal for life after high school?

KW: At this time, I am undecided, but I know I will continue to serve God and my family.

VYPE: Who inspires you on or off the mat?

KW: My dad – he has always set an example of discipline and perseverance. He has always believed in me.

VYPE: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

KW: Taking down Mason Buzbee last year (laughs) and becoming the athlete I am today.
